Honey Bear and Eager Beaver Classrooms

Honey Bear: Ratio 19:2

Older 2's and 3 year olds are increasing their language skills and their "WHY" questions. Our 2 teachers are ready to answer those questions through hands on learning. This class helps children increase focus and attention in small group instruction and build on social skills through cooperative play. You will see children constructing in the block area, pretending in the dramatic play area, learning letters and numbers in the writing area, creating in the art area and "reading" in all areas of the room.

A daily routine is consistent with Circle time, reading, learning centers, small group instruction, outdoor play, mealtimes, and rest times. Whether children attend part time or full time, they will have the chance to experience all this class has to offer.

Eager Beaver: Ratio 20:2

This VPK specific classroom enrolls children 4 by Sept 1st who are also using TLC's wrap around care. Teachers in both VPK classes have specialized training in areas of curriculum, assessment and VPK state requirements. The Eager Beaver students extend learning with higher level literacy, math and social skills.

VPK standards are the framework for learning tasks and children participate in circle time, reading, learning centers, small group instruction, outdoor play, mealtimes, and rest times.

Summer Session: Even though VPK funding is done, the learning never stops. Our summer session continues with learning centers and expansion on what children learned throughout the school year. Added BONUS: Daily swim experience in our inground pool with CPR/1st Aid Certified Staff! What a COOL WAY to spend the summer!

Playground

Our outdoor playground is more like an outdoor classroom with opportunities to construct using wood, tires, tarps and other chosen items. Our TLC Fort is a large wooden structure nestled between 2 shady oak trees. Children love to climb, slide, and swing on our tire swings. The "Loft" allows children to make believe in a variety of roles. Traditional swings, tricycles and bouncy toys bring a familiar feel for children and families. Children and teachers enjoy the natural world around them with trees, sand, grass and vines and our resident animals of lizards, birds, squirrels and our occasional snake. Our large water table and separate sand table allows children to explore with their senses along with pre-math and social skills of sharing.

We believe children should learn how to show love, compassion and respect, our tire garden encourages children to water, trim and yes pick the flowers or veggies grown.

Learning and Socialization

As children grow out of toddlerhood, stronger independence and a desire to try new things out is seen. An explosion of language is also heard as children start to have more in-depth conversations and explore their new love for language, words and reading. Beyond Centers and Circle Time allows children to chose activities in the classroom that is of interest to them. A child's play and interest is the best way for a children to feel successful in the learning process.

As they grow in their self awareness and self esteem, new budding friendships take hold. A new balance of being "ones friend" can be hard to figure out so teachers role model problem solving scenarios and encourage children to "use words" as they work through complicated feelings.

Swimming Pool Fun

During the heat of the Florida summer, children ages 3yrs+ have the opportunity to experience and learn basic swimming skills in our special purpose in-ground 3' deep pool. This "cool" water experience is one of a kind find in Indian River County Preschools.
